Where have I been?

I made this blog and then disappeared after two posts. Sorry about that! Life as a mom of two can be quite hectic. I forgot about this most days and other days I was too tired to write anything. I think most moms can relate with me here. Hopefully now that Charlie is in Pre-K for half the day I will be able to write a little bit more. I'm hoping that I can use this as a way to keep track of all the things I enjoy and to remember all the funny things the boys say/do!

Throwback to Halloween 2015
So what have I been up to the last 2 years?

I have had a baby, became Catholic, went on 4 12+hr road trips, flew to Colorado for a 10 day vacation, read near 100 books, and spent many hours exploring DC.

We have settled in to our life in the DC metro area quite nicely. We miss our family and friends back west but so thankful for the friends we have made here and the experiences we have had in this short time.

Up next a post about how I have gotten myself a little bit more organized!

Adventures in Potty Training

This little baby, who was almost too small for his newborn clothes...
Gah, I just love this little guy!

...is almost two and a half.
Time seems to be speeding right on by.

He has been interested in the toilet since a few months before his second birthday. We decided to wait till after our move to actually start potty training but if he asked to go we would help him.

Now that we have been here for over a month we have started. First thing we did was buy this potty chair from Ikea (my favorite store) for $9.99. Then we stopped by another favorite store, Target, to pick up some big boy underwear.

I decided that a sticker chart would be a great incentive for him because, like all little kids his age, Charlie is obsessed with stickers. It wasn't much but I hope to make a more elaborate one at some point.
This was day one
I decided to take the first day slow and easy by just letting him run around with nothing on and it seemed to be going pretty well. The second day we did the same thing and he did just as well. So on the third day I decided to attempt underwear. Well we had accident after accident and I was getting frustrated. So we have decided to wait on potty training for a while so as to keep the momma and baby happy. I know he is ready but he is very stubborn as he as always been. He doesn't want to stop what he is doing to go to the bathroom and just like his diapers, he has realized underwear holds his pee just not as well.

Even though he isn't too interested in going potty on the toilet he has managed to tell us he needs to poop every time he needs to go. How this happened, I have no idea. From everything I have read and heard this is unusual. But... we all knew he is a very unusual kid. I am just fine with this situation for now. Makes my life much easier.

I think we will just take things slowly and not push anything on him. We have a flight to take in a month so it just might be better to wait until after that anyway. I can't even imagine flying alone with a two year old and trying to get them to go potty on an airplane toilet.

8 Years it Took Me to Get Here

I just finished the very long process of earning my bachelors in Economics. I graduated high school in 2006, 8 years ago, and I started college right away. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I ended up dropping out of college after the first year and moved back home. Even though I did not do so well my first year, I met this great guy. I knew within a month of dating him that he was the one for me; little did I know, right then he felt the same. Three years later we married and 18 months after that our son was born. In just over two weeks we will have been married for 4 years - where does the time go? I struggled with classes and trying to decide on a degree to pursue but I knew when I had my son I needed to finish, even if I never planned on using my degree. It was tough and I did not do as well as I could of but I learned so much in those long 8 years. I honestly never thought the day would come when I would finish. There were so many times I wanted to call it quits; even in the last semester, just two weeks before finals, I was wanting run away and not finish. But the day I walked with my husband down the Hill at KU's commencement ceremony was one of the happiest days of my life. I was lucky enough to spend it with the ones I love.

I am not sure where I want to take this blog. I have so many ideas. I am starting a new chapter in my life as a stay at home mom in a brand new state and would love to take you on this journey with me.
